7 Tips for Packing Like a Pro for Air Travel
No matter where you’re going on vacation, you’ll need to pack a bag. It may sound simple but the entire process can be stressful and tedious – but it doesn’t have to be! Follow these seven tips and you’ll be packing smarter and lighter in no time.
Lay things out first. Find a spot in your home where you can lay everything out, group things together then weed out the necessary versus nice-to-have items.
Know your airline’s baggage policy. Check your airline’s website ahead of time to know the quantity, weight and size allowed for all luggage.
Layer. In order to cut down on the quantity of items you pack, find items that you can layer easily and make your items multi-task.
Never pack essential items in checked luggage. Pack a separate small bag that you can place in your carry-on for easy access to all your essential items. Think medication, chargers, lip balm or anything else you may need to use in the airport or on the plane.
Follow the 3-1-1 rule. Make sure to follow the TSA’s 3-1-1 rule so that you’re not forced to throw away expensive toiletries. You’re allowed to bring a quart-size bag of liquids, aerosols or gels, creams and pastes through the security checkpoint. These are limited to 3.4 oz or less per item.
Pack jewelry in snack-size bags. Avoid your necklaces tangling by giving each one its own small bag. Make sure to fasten the clasp.
Roll don’t fold. Rolling your clothes versus folding takes up less space in luggage.
